Dear SWE Boston Members,

We would love to find a volunteer to present Merit Certificates atMethuen High School on Thursday, May 29th at 6:30pm! We were unable to locate a SWE representative for them last year, so it would be great if we could make it up to them this year!

Please email Darcie Giard (darcie@scadicon.com) if you can help! The details are as follows:
METHUEN HIGH SCHOOL (North of Boston)
One Ranger Road
Methuen, MA 01844
Date: Thursday May 29th
Time: 6:30pm

This one-time task typically takes only an hour or two (at absolutemost!) of your time. The actual presenting takes about 5 minutes(maximum) and generally presenters are present for the entire awardsceremony, plus your travel time to and from the school. We canprovide you with a detailed (but short!) script if you are unsure what to say.

The award recipients are typically students who have excelled in mathand/or science and receiving an award from SWE is almost always thefirst exposure to SWE, and perhaps to engineering, the students havehad. These students may very well be our next generation of SWE members! Having an actual SWE member present the award is greatly appreciated by the school's faculty.

Please email Darcie Giard (darcie@scadicon.com), if you are interested or have any questions.

Thank you,
SWE Boston

Engineering Outreach Opportunity

Come volunteer your engineering expertise at the 2008 ConstructionCareer Days event! This event, sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Museum of Science, and the Boston Society of Civil Engineers, runs May 7th, 8th, and 9th. Over 1800 high schoolstudents will attend over the course of the three days. Students takeon engineering challenges, hear about engineering/technology programs at participating colleges, and compete for awards for their highschools. Over the past few years the sponsor organizations have worked to expand the focus on engineering at the event and need many more engineer volunteers to help us staff these fun and engaging engineering challenges. Details on the event, registration information and pictures from previous years can be found at www.engineers.org/massccd/index.html.

If you think you would like to volunteer for one of the days or some subset, please email Melissa Higgins (mhiggins@mos.org).

If you volunteer for this event, please let us know by sending anemail to Laura Halleck (laurahalleck@gmail.com).

May Meeting: Closing the Gender and Minorities Gap in Engineering - Sponsored by MIT Lincoln Laboratory

Do you wish there were more women at your workplace - either as peers or as leaders you could aspire to?  We must start recruiting from an early age.  Do you have a daughter, neighbor, etc. who should explore science, math, or engineering?  Then this is the meeting for you!
